Hyundai will commence production of its upcoming micro SUV, which could be called the Casper, on September 15 in South Korea. The wraps could soon come off by the end of this year before its possible India launch in 2022.
The Casper, set to be the carmaker’s entry-level SUV, will be positioned below the Venue. In India, the upcoming SUV could get the Grand i10 Nios’s 83PS 1.2-litre petrol, 75PS 1.2-litre diesel, and 100PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options. The SUV will likely get a standard 5-speed manual with all three engine options and a 5-speed AMT (reserved for the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel).
Now to the styling. The upright stance with squared-out wheel arches and possibly 16-inch wheels give the Casper an SUV-like look. The round headlamps with a split indicator and triangle-shaped elements in the tail lamps lend it a retro vibe.

Spy shots suggest that inside, the upcoming Hyundai will get white upholstery and features like a large infotainment system, connected car tech, a wireless phone charger, steering-mounted audio controls, climate control, and keyless entry with push-button start.
Passenger safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors with a camera.

The Hyundai Casper will likely be priced from Rs 6 lakh, putting it in the same league as the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 Nxt, and the upcoming Tata HBX.
